Does this course require mandatory attendance?
The simple answer is yes. To pass this course, you actively participate in all activities (= 5 lectures, all seminars, assignments, presentation). During each seminar or lecture, you sign the attendance list. Your presence will then be registered through CANVAS. This way you can follow up on your absences at all times.

In case you do miss a class, this has to be legitimized by a certificate of illness, an employer or force majeure (ex. passing away of a family member). Repeated unjustified absences will jeopardise your chances of passing.

What if I am combining work and study?
The decision to start all seminars and lectures at 6pm is to give students who are combining work and study the possibility to take up this course. If you work variable hours and therefore miss several classes, please keep in mind that this will negatively impact your evaluation. Attendance is mandatory to all students; exceptions will not be made.

Are classes also recorded online?
All seminars and lectures take place on campus and in different auditoria in Brussels without digital recording. Therefore, it is not possible to rewatch a class online.

Where do classes take place?

Seminars take place on campus, though most lectures are held off-campus. Specific locations will be announced in a timely manner. All details can be found on the calendar through CANVAS.

Will there be a final examination?
There is no final examination for this course, though there will be a presentation moment that will be evaluated. Evaluation follows the pass/fail principle. All info on the presentation and evaluation criteria can be found in the student manual on CANVAS.

When and how can the teaching team be reached?
For questions, support or issues, you can always contact (by appointment) the teaching assistants Bieke Abelshausen and Lisa Ahenkona at redelijk.eigenzinnig@vub.be. Note that they check emails from students on Monday and Friday only.

What is the difference between taking up the course for 3 ECTS or 6 ECTS?
3ECTS: one semester | lectures and individual assignments
6ECTS: year-long course | lectures, research project in groups and individual assignments
